Beautiful re-purposed planked harvest table with Duncan-Fife base

We recently acquired a gorgeous solid pine harvest table which was a freebe from a family friend.  Since we agreed to give up our old dining table (a Duncan-Fife in poor condition!) in order to bring in the new table, we originally thought to sell it rather than refinish to sell it as time was of the essence.  But something about the Duncan-Fife base left me thinking that we could do away with the badly damaged top, and repurpose the base instead.  After sitting on that idea for awhile, I came across some beautiful old boards which are loaded with character, and considered incorporating them into a new table.  Then I remembered my old Duncan-Fife base and the idea hatched into this table below!  It's a bit of a wild one: very rustic and unique on top, and very formal and prim on the bottom.  I love a good piece that tells a story, so I think that's why I was so intrigued by the thought of blending these two seemingly opposing worlds together for something new!  I hope you enjoy it!

Unfortunately, while I thought I had taken a before photo of my Duncan-Fife table, I had not :(  It was dark brown and in rough condition on top.

After - a different version of the standard harvest table!

Beautiful antique white & walnut solid maple & oak dining set

My dear friend "G" and her new husband "A" were given some solid oak chairs and a solid oak table from their relatives after their recent marriage.  To round out their dining room and give themselves more storage space, they also purchased a second-hand solid maple Roxton-made hutch.  While they were happy to finally have decent "adult" furniture in their brand new home, they were not as happy living with the peeling, scratched, and water-damaged finishes, worn seat-covers, and the drab brown tones in their bright and airy dining area.

After some back and forth about what they liked in terms of appearances, we settled on paying homage to the beautiful oak and maple used to build the furniture, as well as brightening up all the pieces to make the whole space feel refreshed and cohesive (or like a matching set).   Neutrals are always a timeless and classic choice in any home, so we went with a clean, linen-white paint colour, medium walnut wood stain, and had a little more fun with prettily patterned seat covers, which can be replaced when needed.  All pieces were followed up with clear and dark wax to still lend the bright white paint some character and to give all the crevices some dimension.  After a marathon weekend of elbow grease and putting my friend to work as my assistant, the set was completely made over and "G" and "A" are thrilled to have gorgeous adult furniture that makes their home feel bright, warm, and ready for a new life together.
